Frequently Asked Questions
- What applications will benefit from using the DepthCube z1024?
Initial applications of the DepthCube z1024 3D Display touch virtually every technical industry, including
science, medicine, military, security, computer aided engineering (CAE) and computer graphics (CG). In
all of these applications there is a need to rapidly convert three-dimensional information from the computer
into 3D knowledge in the viewer's mind.
An important application of the DepthCube involves the visualization of space-filling or volumetric data as
opposed to data about surface geometry. Volumetric data is widely generated in medical visualization
applications such as CT, MRI, PET, and 3D ultrasound imaging. Volumetric data is also found in many
scientific fields such as industrial part inspection, seismology, geochemistry, confocal microscopy and
atmospheric and oceanographic research. Volumetric data plays a significant role in engineering through
the visualization of fluid flow through computation fluid dynamics (CFD) for the design of manifolds,
turbines, and aircraft fuselage, vehicle crash test simulation, the filling of injection molds, heat distribution
in solids and gases, and combustion in engines to name a few. Visualization of this data in 3D within the
DepthCube leverages the full capabilities of human vision to pick out details, relationships, and patterns
that are simply not observable on a 2D display.
Recently, we have been exploring the use of our DepthCube technology in non-invasive inspection of
luggage and cargo at air and sea ports. America's security is being enhanced by the installation of 3D
scanning systems to inspect the contents of the millions of bags and shipping containers that enter the
country each day. Adding DepthCube 3D display technology to these scanners could provide screeners
with images in a 3D format that maximizes their ability to locate contraband while also maintaining the high
throughput needed to avoid interfering with commerce.
Still other applications that will be transformed by the DepthCube are:
· protein structure visualization for pharmaceutical research
· military visualization for battlefield management, terrain visualization or tasking of autonomous vehicles
· control systems for navigating remotely operated vehicles
· marketing sophisticated products and services
Your world has more than two dimensions. DepthCube lets you see it the way you know it.
